Late last week Nokia launched its long awaited Exchange Activesync Client for S60 3rd edition devices. While only Nokia’s e-series devices, targeting the enterprise market and only recently shipping, are running the 3rd edition, we expect the overwhelming majority of future Nokia devices to standardize on this platform (both consumer and business).
The Activesync client is not expected to be in Rom of any E-series devices; however, bits will be in box in the form of CD or Memory card. Additionally, the bits are available for free from Nokia.com (http://www.businesssoftware.nokia.com/activesync_downloads.php).
Nokia’s native messaging, calendar and contacts are used to sync directly to Exchange SP2.
At this time there is insufficient information to compare “Always Up-To-Date” to our Direct Push; however, slight differences are expected in the UI and functionality.
The initial E-series devices will NOT support:
- Managed e-mail folders
- Meeting Management
- GAL Look-up
- Cannot dial a number from E-mail links
- Does not support S60 2nd edition applications (Java Based)
